THKD’s Top 10 Metal Albums of 2018 (print edition)

With the dawn of the THKD YouTube channel, I decided to do something a little different this year. I’ve split my year end top 20 metal albums list in two; half of them can be found below, the other half on YouTube.  So, once you’re done reading this list, head on over to THKD TV and check out the rest of the list… if you don’t mind watching a semi-drunken nerd rant and rave about heavy metal for thirty minutes. But enough of my rambling; as I’ve been saying for almost a decade now, long-winded intros are bullshit.  Let’s get on with it.

YouTube Channel Madness!

I’m sure some of you have noticed that I’ve been doing less writing of late and focusing more on making YouTube videos.  I’ll get back to writing eventually, but I’ve decided that I need to challenge myself with a new medium, as well as expand the THKD empire beyond blogging.  It’s been a fun, refreshing change of pace and I hope you’ll come along on this journey with me while I try something new for a while.

THKD 2018 playlist on Spotify

With 2018 beginning to wind down, I’ve started to reflect upon all the great releases I’ve enjoyed throughout the year.  This in turn lead me to compiling a massive playlist on Spotify; it’s about 99% metal, but there are also a few non-metal surprises lurking around in there.

THKD’s Top 15 Albums of 2017

Ah, the intro.  This is the part where most writers attempt to regale you with an account of the myriad ups and downs they experienced throughout the year.  However, most writers fail to understand one very important fundamental truth: no one cares.  So without further ado and in no particular order, here’s a list of fifteen albums that grabbed a hold of my crank and kept on yankin’ in 2017…

I had an intro written and ready to go, reflecting on all the good and bad that heavy music in 2015 had to offer (mostly bad), but then I remembered that no one reads these long-winded, pointless intros.  So, without further ado, here are eleven musical things (not just albums) that grabbed a hold of my crank and kept on yanking in 2015…

THKD’s One Album Wonders #1: Sloth – The Voice of God (The Music Cartel, 2000)

R-1754391-1241199349.jpegI haven’t been able to find much historical information on UK doom mongers Sloth.  The band apparently formed in London in 1999, but even Metal Archives doesn’t seem to know exactly when they called it a day.  My attempts to find interviews with/articles on the band online have been utterly unsuccessful, and reviews of the album are also all but non-existent. Its quite a shame really, because The Voice of God is as exquisite a slab of soul-withering stoner doom as you’re likely to find this side of Electric Wizard.

THKD’s Top 10 Metal Albums of 2014 that I didn’t write about.

THKD2014In early December, I decided I wasn’t going to do a year end list.  It isn’t that I’m all of the sudden anti-list; I still love lists, but this year I just wasn’t feeling it.  I gotta be honest, after five years of doing THKD I’m fucking weary, and laboring over a list just felt like yet another metal writing chore.  Besides, if you read the blog regularly and follow me on social media, you already know what I liked this year.
